Went to visit the restaurant for dinner today. This is the same restaurant as the famous one at Lucky Plaza. Note that all the dishes DOES NOT include rice (sold separately).

It's actually quite tasty for $6.50 which includes a drink of your choice

The chicken part includes three pieces of wing's mid section, around four pieces of bean curd. The curry gravy is not too thick nor milky which is good.

But where the hell are the potatoes??? How can you have curry chicken WITHOUT potatoes??? HOW?

Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee 建记辣椒板面 (Macperson)

We are here today at the famous Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee 建记辣椒板面 at 534 Macperson Road. Apparently they are very famous in Kuala Lumpur (KL, Malaysia).

板面 aka Ban Mian/Pan Mee is a common dish in Singapore. It's basically handmade noodles with simple ingredients such as minced pork, egg, vegetables and fried anchovies (ikan bilis) by default; costs around $3 to $4. Kin Kin Pan Mee is $5.
Some hawkers add fancy stuff such as seafood, Kin Kin here gives an option of sea asparagus and clam ($8).

The $5 Dry Ban Mian has anchovies, meat balls and minced pork cooked in dark soy sauce. The noodles are delicious and the gravy is perfect. Serving size is average.

Fish ball and dried Beancurd soup $4 has spinach in it as well. The soup basically tastes of the salt and msg water that is used for soaking fishballs in the market.

They provide two types of chilli, the fried flakes and the paste type. Both are tasty and moderately spicy.

My verdict, as much as it is relatively tasty, this dish is just a common food fare in Singapore, available at almost any kopitiam; you can even cook this at home given the simplicity of the ingredients necessary. $5 is way way way too expensive an asking price. It's not like we need to fine dine ban mian in an air-conditioned environment in Tai Seng (hello, it's not Orchard?).

Service is not up to standard, staff are seen chatting behind the counter, and playing with their mobile phones IN THE DINING AREA. 
Toilets cleanliness is acceptable, however thoughtful enough to be separated by a glass door from the dining area.

Ban Mian 板面 (Choice 203)

This stall will be closing down some time this month. I think I know why.. 

The soup is a little too bland. Minimal amount of minced pork and ikan bilis (fried anchovies). The egg has some egg shell in it which really kills the experience. 

Dumpling is semi-soggy.

The entire dish is simply sloppy.


Sri Sujana Nasi Lemak (Changi Village)

This my favourite among the Nasi Lemak stalls here despite constantly conforming to the corner stall.

This Nasi Lemak (coconut rice) is slightly moist with coconuty fragrance. The Sambal Chilli is of the perfect texture and spicyness with extra crunchy Ikan Bilis (fried anchovies) on the side. Chicken Wing has nice hints of tamarind. Almost perfect except for the slightly soggy cucumber slices.

According to my dad, the store was doing so-so at Old Airport Road. It seems to be extremely popular here in Tampines; super long queues, huge orders, sell-outs by noon..

Lor Mee 卤面
$3 (no fish)
Very generous serving of ingredients with tasty gravy. Well marinated egg, thick slices of fish and ngor hiang. Some foodies may find the gravy not garlic-y enough, but I think it's perfect. Hints of salted fish at the right amount of thickness.

Prawn Noodles 虾面
$4/$5 (软骨虾面)
$5 (大虾面)
Not impressed by the very mediocre prawn noodles. Let's just stick with Lor Mee.

Dr. Cafe Coffee (Chinatown Point)

Need to waste an hour waiting for my mate, Joe.

So I found this cafe in Chintown Point. They are having a 1-for-1 tall drink happy hour. Each coffee is around $4.

The Malay staff is super genuine, friendly and chatty. Explains that their beans are special blends from Arab. 

Also they have free wifi for customers.

The food is pretty good but the service is from hell. Wait staff making eye contact with you and looking the other way. They don't approach you till you wave frantically at them. There's a dead fly in the menu and it takes them 15min to get us some iced water. We are all from the hospitality industry and we know the staff to guest ratio is more than sufficient. The only decent service was from the Malay bartender. Un-fucking-believable!

It's a shame and we're never coming back.

Parkway Parade Steamboat (Roxy Square)

We read from celebrity Michelle Chong's Facebook that the iconic Parkway Parade Steamboat is closing down early September due to the lack in manpower; so we decided to pay this nostalgic eatery a visit.

As usual the dishes are quite expensive but rather tasty. The chilli dip provided is spicy and delicious. 

Tables were clean and service was prompt despite the full-house on Sunday night.

Our damage was $25 per person (excluding drinks).

Taste wise, I like it. A Singaporean knows a good durian when he/she tastes one.

Changi Village Hawker Center

Singapore-style Ipoh HorFun

This hawker has 4 stalls in the hawker, combined into 2 directly opposite each other. 

Before my Malaysian friends start arguing that this is not authentic Ipoh HorFun, I must emphasise that this is the local version; similar to Hainanese Chicken Rice which has absolutely nothing to do with Hainan, China.

Not-so-generous with the ingredients, there are 2 thin slices of char siew, 2 mini pieces of chicken, 2 thin slices of fish cakes and 2 small stalk of vegetables. However the gravy is nice and quite satisfying.

There are two vegetarian fritters stalls at the corner, both taste the same to me.
