Bread Street Kitchen (MBS)

So I was visiting the ArtScience Museum this morning and got hungry, and visited Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen at MBS.

Got myself the Traditional Fish & Chips, Mashed Peas and Tartar Sauce with a glass of Chardie. Damage is around $61.20. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

The restaurant ambience is nice and welcoming. The Korean host and Ukrainian wait staff are gorgeous. I was seated at B1, where I watch the cooks do their mis-en-place, totally enjoyable.

Ok let's talk about the food. Fresh bread and butter were served, great variety and super tasty. The traditional fish and chips is beautiful. Anyone old enough to remember Harry Ramsden near Kallang Stadium? Similar style, and I'm 100% sure the batter is cleaner tasting, and the peas are not as pungent.

I was a culinary student and a fan of fish and chips, so trust me when I call it perfection. Fish was super fresh, oil used was clean.

There were so much chips, a fatty like me couldn't finish it.

Very impressed. Return factor, absolutely.

Collin's First and Second Prize Dishes

Pan Grilled Salmon Salsa with Sweet Potato Mash and Sweet Corn Egg Mayo $13.80

Salted Egg Sabayon Pork Loin with Gnocchi Marinara $12.80

So I've tried both new dishes from Collin's in two days. My verdict is - as tasty as they are, it's a tat too expensive for hawker food, also not filling enough for a fatty like myself.

Sushi Afternoon Tea

Feeling thankful that Itacho Sushi is now in Tampines Mall, I can just put on some flip flops and walk over for some afternoon tea at 3pm - and nobody can judge me! Hahaha

Honzen 本然 (Farrer Park)

We're here today at Honzen 本然 vegetarian restaurant for dinner. Since arrival at 6:30pm, there were NO CUSTOMERS throughout the night. So it kinda feels like we booked the entire restaurant. Nice and quiet, decoration was exotic with soft oriental music. Staff were warm, polite and friendly (all wait staff or maybe they were the business owners, were Chinese nationals).

41 Sam Leong Road
(Farrer Park)
Singapore 207931

Starters:
Mango Seaweed Roll (left)
$6
I like this dish, it's crispy with the goreng pisang texture with chewy prawn-like mock meat inside; very tasty

Ngoh Hiang (right)
$4.80
Not impressed

Since we ordered the 8-course Set Meal ($28), it comes with one drink, two appetisers, one salad, one platter, one main, one soup and one dessert.
You get to choose the drink, main and soup, the rest were seasonal.
My choice for drink was Chrysanthemum Tea.

The staff explains in-depth, the health benefits for each item on the menu, so you make an educated decision. I thought it was pretty cool, despite knowing well that it's just a theme.

Appetiser One:
Apple and Jelly Salad
Not impressed

Appetiser Two:
Passion Fruit and Pumkin
Despite the lacking in presentation, I quite enjoy the crispy texture and fruity fragrance.

Appetiser Three;
Green Salad
Don't think I need to explain this..

Appetiser Four:
Spinach in Peanut Sauce, Mash Potato, Crispy Bean Curd
Interesting presentation, however strictly speaking, there should be three unique cooking method. Secondly, they do not compliment each other. Pretty to look at, normal tasting, but wrong in all gastronomical aspects theoretically.
Note that I'm being extra strict for the $28 I'm paying, I'm usually lenient towards cheaper options.

Main:
Lotus Leaf Rice

Beef Rendang with Rice

Hainanese Chicken Rice
The rice is fragrant. I really like the acha (pickles). The rest screams of mediocrity.

Soup:
Tree Bark Soup or something, I forgot (top and middle left)
Cactus Soup (middle right)
Ling Zhi Soup (bottom)
The Ling Zhi Soup came in a tea pot, and is pretty tasty.

Dessert:
Chinese Pear with Cinammon
Quite tasty, for cinammon lovers.

For $28, here's my verdict:
Food Quality: 3.5/5
Presentation: 4/5
Value for Money: 2.5/5
Ambience: 5/5
Service: 4/5
Toilet: 4/5
Return Factor: 3/5

Room for improvement if you're charging $28. Food is fresh, but too much effort into presentation and perceived image, neglecting important factors such as food pairing and ingredient combinations.

Fun to visit, but not for serious, culinary-educated foodies.

Two Men Bagel House (Tanjong Pagar)

TWO MEN BAGEL HOUSE

Icon Village Altez
(Tanjong Pagar MRT)
16 Enggor Street
Singapore 079717

Opening Hours:
Weekdays 8am - 8pm
Weekends 9am - 6pm

Was around Tanjong Pagar so I decided to drop by this bagel place for breakfast. The shopfront is directly opposite Cold Storage supermarket in the Icon building.

The concept of this bagel place is chic and welcoming, which reminds me of suburb coffee joints back in Brisbane (such as Loading Dock or Hit).

Menu is straight-forward. Variety of bagels (plain, sesame, cheese etc), coffee and juices. Simplicity at its best.
Here's what I ordered from the breakfast menu.

BABE
Cinnamon & Raisin Bagel
Scrambled Eggs, Fresh Tomatoes, Melted Cheese, Bacon, Topped with Parsley

Flat White

Service was good, all the staff (even the chefs) were friendly and happy. Restaurant was clean. Food was tasty.

Return factor: Absolutely
